Former All-Conference USA running back Anthony Evans is in his third season on the football staff as the offensive quality control assistant. A four-year letterman for the Cougars, Evans ranks among Houston[apos]s all-time career leaders in rushing yards, rushing attempts and rushing touchdowns and is one of only eight players in school history to rush for more than 2,200 yards during his career.
Evans became only the 20th player in school history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a single season after finishing the 2003 season with a team-best 1,149 yards on the ground. He joined wide receiver Brandon Middleton to give the Cougars their first 1,000-yard rusher and 1,000-yard receiver in one season since 1989. Evans topped 100 yards rushing five times en route to a Third-Team, All-Conference USA selection.
Despite missing three games with an injured calf, Evans still led the Cougars with 788 rushing yards in 2004 while averaging 98.5 yards per game. Against Army, he rushed for 282 yards which tied as the second most yards rushing by a UH back in one game.
Evans appeared in all 12 games as a redshirt freshman in 2002, rushing for 180 yards and two touchdowns while serving as Joffrey Reynolds[apos] backup.
A former prep star at Pearland High School, Evans graduated in 2005 with a bachelor[apos]s degree in communications. He is single and lives in Houston.
