ATHLETICS COMMUNICATIONS |
THE POSITION:Â The University of Houston Athletics Communications Department is seeking aggressive, creative and self-motivated individuals to serve as student assistants, and become members of the Houston Athletics Communications staff. The department hires between 10-12 student assistants each year.
THE DEPARTMENT:Â The University of Houston Athletics Communications Department promotes and publicizes UH's 17 intercollegiate sports programs to raise awareness, increase attendance and ticket sales to each athletic event. The communications office is the liaison between the coaches and student-athletes and the outside publics, including the media. The office runs the in-game statistical software and all post-event media needs, in addition to managing all editorial content on www.UHCougars.com. The department also is responsible for being the historical archives of the athletic department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with writing of press releases and organizing press coverage of UH's 17 sport teams
- Generating and maintaining content on UHCougars.com, the official site of the University of Houston Athletics
- Serving as secondary contacts for UH 17 sport teams
- Attending office hours and home sporting events for assigned teams
- Performing other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Â Must be a current UH undergraduate student (freshman or sophomore preferred but not required). Must have a deep desire for sports and public relations. Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Candidates must be team-oriented. Must be able to work 10 hours a week, including assigned office hours and events. Must be available on the weekends - including every home football game.

ATHLETICS BROADCAST (ESPN+) |
THE POSITION:Â The Video Department within the Houston Athletics Department is looking for students with a passion for behind the scenes with broadcasting live sporting events for ESPN+.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESÂ Â (include, but not limited to):
- Camera operators (Build up and handheld)
- Learn how to run instant replay
- Utility work (how to run cable and over under)
- Learn how to use Ross Xpression (Graphics)Â
- Set up and breakdown on game days
- Learn how to pre produce a show Â
- Creating scripts and rundown for the broadcast

ATHLETICS VIDEO |
THE POSITION:The Video Department within the Houston Athletics Department is looking for students with a passion for shooting, editing and graphic design.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESÂ (include, but not limited to):
- Editing videos for UHCougars.com, our social media outlets and home sporting events
- Designing graphics that will be seen on UHCougars.com, our social media outlets and home sporting events
- Working behind the camera to shoot live game action, practices and feature stories
- Opportunity to produce and direct live streams for our Olympic Sports
- Work with coaches, players and Athletic Department staff to gain professional experience
- Learn the proper way to respectfully care for essential video equipment
- The athletic department uses Adobe suite programs such as Premiere Pro,After Effects and Photoshop.
BENEFITS:Â The Internship is unpaid at its core, but does offer the opportunity to be paid for working home events as well as the chance for class credit.

ATHLETICS MARKETING, GAMEDAY & BRAND AMBASSADORÂ |
THE POSITION:The University of Houston Athletics Marketing Department is seeking aggressive, creative, detailed and self-motivated individuals to be a part of the department's internship.
THE DEPARTMENT:Â The University of Houston Athletics Marketing Department advertises, markets and promotes all 17 intercollegiate sports programs to raise awareness, increase attendance and ticket sales to each athletic event. The Marketing Office coordinates the in-game production for each event and prepares promotional scripts for the game day staff. In addition to game production, they are concerned with the fan experience and game atmosphere and develop ways to improve each. The Marketing Department also works in conjunction with the Athletics Ticket Office to sell tickets and ticket packages to Athletics events. Finally, the department oversees the licensing program for the University's trademarks and logos.
BRAND AMBASSADOR RESPONSIBILITIESÂ
- Represent Houston Athletics positively in a multitude of settings
- Participate in event marketing
- Generating brand awareness through word-of-mouth marketing
- Being an opinion leader in the Houston Cougar community
- Providing feedback and insight on what’s trending now
- Promoting the Houston Athletics via his/her personal social media accounts
- Promote athletic events and communicate promotions within the campus community
- Distribute posters, schedule cards, signage and other marketing materials to assigned locations

GAME DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with managing public address announcers, coordinating music, video board elements, cheer squad, pep band, and other marketing needs to ensure a smooth flow of games, events and promotions as needed.
- Fulfill sponsored elements such as PA announcements, promotions, contests and other game and event elements. Â
- Work Kids Zone at selected events
- Assist with setting up and breaking down of game day events
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Houston Athletic Marketing staff in the development, coordination and implementation of marketing and promotional efforts for all 17 sports, and any specific sport to which you are assigned.
- Attend scheduled weekly/bi-weekly intern staff meetings, intern huddle meetings and optional intern development events.
- Develop full-scale marketing plans for sports as needed.
- Improve the atmosphere at each event with games, giveaways, contests, trivia and music, etc.
EXPECTATIONSÂ
Giveaways & promotions - The marketing staff will coordinate with all brand ambassadors to receive giveaway items prior to games so that they may post a photo of the giveaway the day before or day of a game.Â
Social Media Interaction - It is asked that brand ambassadors interact with posts from Houston Athletics affiliated social media accounts.
Apparel - Brand ambassadors are not to wear other college or pro team apparel and follow dress guidelines when in a working capacity for Houston Athletics or in Houston Athletics facilities.
Positive Attitude - Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and a positive attitude, be an energetic team player and the ability to work with others in and out of the office environment
Dependability - Must be dependable, flexible, and practical while maintaining a standard of quality and integrity

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSÂ
- Genuine interest in athletics and the sport industry
- Ability to manage time commitment and dedicated office and event hours
- Full-time studentÂ
- Maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher
- Excellent oral communication skills, written communication skills, and customer service skills
- Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn
- Ability to multi-task, stay organized, keep up with high-energy, fast paced environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, powerpoint)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Marketing, public relations, advertising or sports management major (or related field)
- Potential to serve as an intern for more than one year
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, indesign)
- Working knowledge of collegiate sports and NCAA guidelines

THE POSITION:Â The University of Houston Athletics Graphic Design department is seeking creative and self-motivated individuals to serve as a student assistant to help increase and enhance the graphic standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESÂ (include, but not limited to):
- Design print materials, such as promotional flyers, posters, direct mailers, t-shirts, etc.
- Critique group projects such as schedule posters, billboards, website re-design
- Visually enhance web and social media graphics

DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT |
THE POSITION:Â Development Assistants provide support to the Development Staff in the daily operation of the Athletics Development office, at Athletics Special events and during Football/Men's Basketball game days. They work closely with the Development Staff to implement fundraising and donor relations strategies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESÂ (Included but not limited to):
- Eight (8) hours required per week in the Athletics Development office in addition to Football/Men's Basketball game days.
- Call and solicit gifts from potential donors.
- Assist with various research and reporting initiatives.
- Assist with the execution of all Luxury Areas on Football/Men's Basketball game days.
- Assist with the execution of all Athletics Development special events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicants must be enrolled at the University of Houston; major in business, marketing, or athletics administration is preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong self-motivated work ethic along with keen attention to detail.

Houston Cougar Sports Performance is accepting applications for our Sports Performance Internship Program for an unpaid position.
Intern responsibilities include: assisting with the supervision of training programs; assisting with daily administrative and maintenance items; completion of various educational assignments during the internship.
Intern qualifications include: punctuality, enthusiasm, strong work ethic and a commitment to volunteer a minimum of 40 hours per week. Preferred qualifications include: Senior status or completion of a bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field; CSCS, SCCC, or USAW certification; CPR certification.
Interns will receive experience working in a Division I training environment, have the potential to earn recommendations for future career opportunities and receive college credit if applicable.
