Preview: Women’s Basketball Set to Host Oklahoma on Saturday

Cougars look to bounce back against the Sooners at 6 p.m. inside Fertitta Center
HOUSTON– The University of Houston Women's Basketball program returns to Fertitta Center as it takes on Oklahoma at 6 p.m., Saturday inside Fertitta Center for its RED OUT game and Kaila Chizer remembrance game.
All fans encouraged to wear red as part of the Cougars' Red Out in Fertitta Center. The first 300 fans in attendance will receive a free red T-shirt.

ABOUT KAILA CHIZER
Kaila Chizer, a two-time Houston graduate, former student-athlete and Women's Basketball Director of Operations, unexpectedly passed away August 2022.
Chizer, 26, graduated with a degree in education from the University of Houston in 2018 and earned her master's in human resource development in 2020. She was the daughter of Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development/SWA DeJuena Chizer, and her husband, Derrick.
The former Houston Women's Basketball student-athlete rejoined the program in May 2022 as its Director of Basketball Operations following one year as an Assistant Coordinator with the Arizona Women's Basketball program.
The Pearland, Texas, native spent two seasons as a Houston Women's Basketball graduate assistant from 2018-2020. During that time, she supervised the team's managers while assisting with recruiting, community service and academic scheduling as well as taking the lead on equipment.
Chizer was a three-year letterwinner at Pearland High School before beginning her collegiate career at Texas A&M-Kingsville, where she played in 28 games across two seasons. Chizer played in six games, including one start, during the 2017-18 season with the Cougars.

- Houston and Oklahoma meet for the fifth time in program history on Saturday; Third meeting in Houston.
- The Cougars and Sooners split the all-time series, 2-2.
- This marks the first meeting between Head Coaches Ronald Hughey and Jennie Baranczyk.
- Houston Head Coach Ronald Hughey is 2-0 against Oklahoma, including an 85-69 victory at Fertitta Center (Nov. 23, 2019).
- The Sooners have picked up wins against three of the four new members of the Big 12 Conference (UCF, BYU, Cincinnati).
- The Cougars fell to rv/rv West Virginia, 80-39 on Wednesday evening at WVU Coliseum.

- Both Onyeje (195) and Laila Blair (170) have their eyes set on the Houston all-time three-pointers made record of 226 set by Brittney Scott (2007-11).
- Onyeje is now second all-time on the three-pointers made list, surpassing Chandi Jones (188, 2000-04).
- Blair sits at sixth all-time on the three-pointers made list and will move to fourth all-time with two more 3-pointers.
- A season after being the shortest team in the league and relying on its full court press to make teams uncomfortable, the Cougars are the 11th tallest team in the league this year an average height of 5-11.
