Houston Drops Tough Battle Against Oklahoma

Graduate guard N’Yah Boyd posts 20 points against the Sooners
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball program fell to Oklahoma, 71-65, on Saturday evening inside Fertitta Center.
Houston (11-7, 2-5 Big 12) was led by graduate guard N'Yah Boyd with 20 points, going 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Oklahoma (11-6, 5-1 Big 12) duo senior forward Skylar Vann and junior guard Payton Verhulst kept the Sooners in front, combining for 39 points.
The Sooners got off to a hot start with a 7-0 run to grab the early lead. A pair of three-pointers by graduate forward Bria Patterson and Boyd put the Cougars back on track. An electric steal and score by Houston pulled them within four to end the first quarter.
Junior forward Maliyah Johnson scored on a fastbreak to give Houston their first lead early in the second quarter. Coming off the bench, redshirt senior guard Shalexxus Aaron scored five-straight points to tie the Sooners at 30.
Six different Cougars scored in the third as senior guard Laila Blair led the charge with five points. The Houston defense racked up three steals, converting those steals into seven points.
Boyd dropped eight of her 20 points, including two treys in the final frame, getting the Cougars within three, but ultimately fell short to the Sooners.
UP NEXT
Houston hits the road for a pair of road matches. The first stop for the Cougars is in Lubbock, Texas, to take on Texas Tech at 6 p.m., Wednesday inside United Supermarkets Arena.
Following Lubbock, Houston heads to Orlando, Fla., to face UCF at 1 p.m., CT Saturday inside Addition Financial Arena.
