Reily, Sutton Ready to Go at U.S. Amateur Championship

Cougar duo tees off at 1:30 p.m. (CDT) Monday in Colorado
HOUSTON – University of Houston Men's Golf stars Austyn Reily and Nick Sutton will compete in the nation's premier amateur event when they tee off at the U.S. Amateur Championship in Colorado beginning Monday.
Reily and Sutton will play one round at the 7,405-yard, par-71 Cherry Hills Country Club and one round at the 7,560-yard, par-72 course at Colorado Golf Club through Tuesday. The Top-64 golfers after 36 holes advance to match play.
This marks the second straight season Reily will compete at the U.S. Amateur Championship after competing at the 2022 event at The Ridgewood Country Club and Arcola Country Club in Paramus, N.J., in 2022. Sutton will make his U.S. Amateur Championship debut.
It also marks the fifth straight season in which Houston Men's Golf will be represented at the U.S. Amateur Championship.
Sutton earned his place at the U.S. Amateur Championship by finishing second at 4-under 138 in a qualifier at Vinoy Golf Club in mid-July. Reily used a Final-Round 68 to win a qualifier at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Puerto Rico in mid-July.
The Cougar duo is part of more than 300 amateur golfers from around the world competing in the event.

Reily begins the U.S. Amateur Championship off. No. 10 at 1:30 p.m. (CDT) Monday, at Colorado Golf Club. He will play in a group with Aaron Fricke and Chris Devlin.
Sutton will play in a group with Blake L. Trimble and Matthew Lowe, beginning at 1:30 p.m. (CDT) Monday, off No. 1 at Cherry Hills Country Club.
For Tuesday's Second Round, Reily and Sutton will begin the day earlier with Reily off No. 1 at 8 a.m. (CDT) and Sutton starting off No. 10 at 8 a.m. (CDT) at Colorado Golf Club

ABOUT AUSTYN REILY
Preparing for his super senior season with the Cougars in 2023-24, Reily competed in 12 tournaments with a 73.11 scoring average and 14 rounds of par or better, including seven in the 60s.
The Pottsboro, Texas, native posted three straight rounds of par or better to finish second at The American Championships with a score of 7-under 203 and lead the Cougars to their team title. He drained three eagles in the First Round of The American Championships on the way to a 64 to set a school record for low round at a conference tournament and set the Cougars' season-low 18-hole total.
Reily recorded three Top-10 finishes in 2022-23 with an eighth-place showing at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club in Houston on Feb. 20-21.

ABOUT NICK SUTTON
In 2022-23, Sutton joined the Cougars as a senior transfer after an award-winning career at Tennessee Tech. In his first year with the Cougars, the Matthews, N.C., native competed in six tournaments with a 72.79 scoring average and six rounds of par or better.
He earned a pair of Top-10 finishes to start his Houston career at the Bluejack National Shootout (t-6th, Sept. 26, 2022) and at the Houston Classic (t-9th, Feb. 13-14, 2023), thanks to a season-best 67 in the Second Round of that event.
Sutton also added a 13th-place showing at the All-American Intercollegiate Individual event at Golf Club of Houston.
