HOUSTON – University of Houston Men's Golfers Hudson Weibel and Hsuan-Yi Chen were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team earlier this week. Both student-athletes have posted cumulative grade-point averages of 3.50 or higher during their academic careers.
Weibel received his bachelor's degree in integrated studies in May 2025 while Chen (pre-business) returns for his junior season in 2026-27.
ABOUT HUDSON WEIBEL
Weibel was the Cougars' leading performer throughout the 2025-26 season, posting a 70.43 scoring average, 25 rounds of par or lower and 15 rounds in the 60s.
He opened the season with three straight rounds in the 60s at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La., to lead the Cougars to the team championship.
Weibel drained a birdie on the 17th hole of the Final Round to move into a tie for the lead and holed out an eagle from 123 yards to defeat Louisiana's Malan Potgieter on the second hole of a playoff for the first title of his collegiate career.
Weibel closed the Trinity Forest Invitational in his hometown of Dallas with a career-low 64 to force a playoff against Rice's Lukas Boandl and sank a 40-foot birdie on the second hole of a playoff to capture the individual championship for that tournament.
Weibel posted scores of 68-67 in the final two rounds of the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo Texas, on February 16-17 and didn't need extra holes on the way to his third medalist honor of the season.
With that performance, he became the first Cougar to win 3+ tournaments in a season since Roman Robledo during the 2013-14 season.
Weibel was a member of the All-Big 12 Conference Second Team and was named to the PING All-Central Region Team. He was recognized as the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for October 2025 and was named the league's Golfer of the Week on February 19.
