Andrew Danna Hired to Lead Men’s Golf Program

Award-winning coach joins Cougars following stint at Florida Gulf Coast and national championship tenure at Lynn
HOUSTON – Former Florida Gulf Coast Coach Andrew Danna has been hired as the University of Houston's Mike Booker Men's Golf Coach, Vice President for Athletics Eddie Nuñez announced Wednesday. Danna's hiring is pending approval from the UH System Board of Regents.Danna – whose last name is pronounced Dan-Uh – became the eighth coach in the history of the program, which has collected 16 NCAA team national championships, eight NCAA individual national titles, won 21 conference team titles and 22 individual league crowns and competed in 26 NCAA Regionals.
"As a long-time professional in the golf world, Andrew understands and appreciates what the Golf program means to the University of Houston. In a short time, he has built an impressive career with multiple NCAA Regional appearances at Florida Gulf Coast, a national championship at Lynn University and numerous individual awards everywhere he has been," Nuñez said. "As we welcome Andrew, his wife, Carey, and their children to the University of Houston, I am excited to see where he takes our Men's Golf team in the years ahead."

"We can achieve incredible success here, and I look forward to hitting the ground running. I can be passionate and a high-energy guy, but above all, I am a players' coach. I want to create a culture where our student-athletes can succeed in the classroom and on the course, and build a program of which our fans, our alumni, the University and the city of Houston can be proud."
Success has followed Danna everywhere he has been. As a head coach at Florida Gulf Coast (2019-26), NCAA Division II Lynn (2012-18) and Georgia Southwestern (2010-12), he led his teams to a combined 32 team titles, including the 2018 NCAA Division II national championship with Lynn, and produced 33 All-Conference honorees.
Nine of his student-athletes have won 16 individual tournament championships with three coming in his last two seasons at Florida Gulf Coast.
For his team's impressive performance in his final season at Lynn, Danna was named the 2018 NCAA Division II Dave Williams National Coach of the Year. Williams was the long-time head coach at Houston from 1952 to 1986 and won 16 NCAA national titles and 342 tournament championships during his Hall of Fame career.
Danna was a four-time Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year with Florida Gulf Coast (2026, 2025, 2022, 2021) and was honored as the Sunshine State Coach of the Year with Lynn in 2017 and 2016. He was recognized as the Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year in 2012 during his final season at Georgia Southwestern.
He came to Houston after a seven-year stint at Florida Gulf Coast (2019-26). There, his teams competed in NCAA Regional play in three of the last five seasons (2026, 2025, 2022) with an individual qualifier at the 2024 NCAA Austin Regional.
Danna produced 17 All-Atlantic Sun Conference honorees at Florida Gulf Coach with four in each of his last two seasons, including three First-Team selections each year.
In 2025-26, he led FGCU to the program's first Atlantic Sun Conference championship and a pair of team titles. The Eagles finished among the nation's Top 60 with three individual championships and advanced to the NCAA Marana Regional in Arizona.
He also was recognized as the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
Before joining FGCU, Danna served as an assistant coach at LSU during the 2018-19 season. That year, he helped lead the Tigers to the NCAA Stanford Regional and a berth at the 2019 NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
As head coach at Lynn, he led the Fighting Knights to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Championships in each of his last five years with second-place finishes in 2017 and 2015. He also led Lynn to Sunshine State Conference championships in 2016 and 2015.
During his Lynn tenure, he led the team to six NCAA Division II Championships berths with 17 All-Americans, nine All-America Scholars, National and Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year Felix Kvarnstrom and 13 All-Sunshine State Conference selections.
With 22 tournament championships, he finished as the program's career record holder in that category.
Danna spent his first two seasons in the collegiate coaching ranks at Georgia Southwestern from 2010 to 2012. There, he produced two Golf Coaches Association of America All-Americans.
Honored as the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year in his final season, Danna guided the Hurricanes to three team championship and two individual titles while rising to #1 in the NCAA Division II GolfStat national rankings.
After receiving his bachelor's degree in business administration from Mississippi State in 2006, Danna began his professional career at Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I., and then worked with the junior golf program at the Santa Maria Golf Academy in Baton Rouge.
Following a stint at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans, he moved into the collegiate coaching ranks at Georgia Southwestern in 2010.
