GAME 1
Iowa (14-8) scored two runs in each of the first four innings keeping Houston (13-14) at bay before holding off UH for an 8-4 win.
A passed ball in the first inning allowed two Hawkeye runs to score before Houston pulled one back in the bottom half. Right fielder Amanda Carden led off the first inning for the Cougars with a triple off the right field wall and a sacrifice fly off the bat of second baseman Becca Schulte scored Carden to make it 2-1 Iowa.
Houston matched Iowa's two-spot in the second inning to make it 4-3 after two, but a two-run inning in the third and fourth for Iowa and zeros for the Cougars the rest of the way diminished UH's chances of a comeback.
Schulte, shortstop Rock Benavides and designated player Amanda Carden drove in a run each.
GAME 2
Three Hoosier home runs helped Indiana down Houston 8-5 in the afternoon game.
Houston opened the scoring in the top of the first inning after a one-out walk to left fielder Bethany Busch scored on a two-out double by Schulte. The next batter, center fielder Aspen Howie, dropped a bloop double scoring Schulte to make it 2-0.
Indiana (13-5) answered back with a solo home run and then took the lead in the second inning with a two-run home run.
First baseman Britaney Shaw tied the game in the game in the fourth with a solo home run to dead center field.
Back and forth the game went with Indiana scoring a run in the fourth inning before Houston plated a pair in the fifth inning to take the lead back. Busch walked, stole second, moved to third on a single by catcher Kati Ray Brown and scored on a passed ball. A single in the gap by Schulte scored Brown from second.
Indiana retook the lead in the fifth inning, scoring four runs on a pair of bases loaded walks and two Cougar fielding errors.
A solo home run added Indiana's eighth run of the game in the sixth inning.
