Houston faces three Power 5 opponents at Hall of Fame Classic in Oklahoma City
HOUSTON − The University of Houston softball team heads to Oklahoma City for the Hall of Fame Classic at the site of the Women's College World Series Friday-Sunday. The Cougars will face three Power 5 schools including a third matchup with #1 Oklahoma.

FIRST PITCH
- Winners of four-straight, the Cougars topped rv Boise State 6-2 in nine innings on Thursday before sweeping Northwestern State. Houston has not won four consecutive games since winning 11-straight in February 2020.
- Houston is the designated home team against Iowa and San Diego and is the designated away team against Indiana and Oklahoma.
- Houston will play its first game in Hall of Fame Stadium of the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex and its second two games on Integris Field at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex before playing the final game of the tournament against Oklahoma in Hall of Fame Stadium.
- The Cougars face the Sooners for the third time in 2022. It is the first time Houston softball has faced the #1 team in the country three times in one season and the sixth time facing Oklahoma when it is ranked #1.
- Britaney Shaw hit two home runs against Boise State including a walk-off grand slam in the ninth inning.
- Becca Schulte was named The American Player of the Week after hitting .500 with 8 RBI and 3 HR.
- Schulte has hit a home run in three-straight games, has hit the 5th most home runs in the NCAA and is tied for 14th with nine total home runs.
- Kenna Wilkey ranks 12th nationally with 2 saves.
- Houston downed #7 Washington in walk-off fashion on Friday of the Boyd Gaming Classic, 5-4. It marked the second-straight year the Cougars had topped the #7 team in the country (last against #7 Oklahoma State in 2021).
- Becca Schulte hit a home run in the final game of 2020, did not play in 2021, and hit a home run in her first at-bat of 2022. Thus, Schulte hit a home run in back-to-back games spanning 23 months.
- Freshman Ja'Naiya Thomas was named to D1Softball's preseason Top 75 Impact Freshman list.
- Thomas was named D1Softball's Preseason Freshman of the Year for The American.
- Houston will finish the regular season on national television May 1 at South Florida on ESPNU.
- Houston added 13 newcomers to the 2022 roster, eight of which are freshmen.
- The Cougars have 13 upperclassmen, including six seniors and two graduate students.
- Graduate student Becca Schulte is competing in her seventh season as a collegiate athlete. Schulte graduated high school in 2015. She is one of two known 7th-year softball players in the DI ranks.
- Houston will face four Preseason Top 25 teams in 2022, including three teams in the Top 10 of D1Softball's preseason poll.
- The Cougars play 10 teams that made a regional in 2021. Houston's schedule penned seven Power 5 opponents into the 2022 schedule, facing those seven teams a total of 11 total times.
