Hudson's Debut No-No
It didn't take long for freshman pitcher Hailey Hudson to get herself acclimated to the collegiate level, as the College Station, Texas, native tossed the program's 20th no-hitter in the 8-0 win over Texas Southern (2/13). Her debut no-no marked the second time in as many years as many years the Cougars have had a player throw a no-hitter in a debut, as sophomore pitcher Logan Hulon recorded the historical accomplishment in 2020.
Hudson was nearly perfect in her outing, finishing the game surrendering just one walk and striking out four batters, needing only 61 pitches to complete the accomplishment.
What Can Brown Do For You?
Back for her second year behind plate is junior catcher Kati Ray Brown, who has made the most of her opportunities since taking over the role in 2020. A third generation Houston Cougar Athlete, Brown's nine home runs last year not only led the American Athletic Conference but ranked 15th in the country.
After finishing the year with a .852 slugging percentage that sat atop of the conference and amongst the best in the nation, ranking inside the top 25 at No. 24, Brown is primed for another explosive year at the plate, having already launched two home runs through Houston's first six games.
Hit 'em Fast, Hit 'em Hard
Houston's offense has wasted no time coming out of the gates firing on all cylinders this season, having outscored it opponents 33-11 in the first three innings, while holding a scoring .396 batting average in those frames.
The first inning has been particularly friendly for the Cougars, as Houston has outscored the opposition, 11-1. In fact, three of the team's seven home runs have come in the first inning, which has seen Houston posted a team slugging percentage of .781.
