Hudson Tosses No-Hitter in Debut

Becomes 20th player in program history to accomplish feat
HOUSTON – University of Houston freshman pitcher Hailey Hudson threw a no-hitter in her collegiate debut in the Cougars' 8-0 win over Texas Southern on Saturday.
Hudson is the 20th player in program history to accomplish the feat. This is the second time in as many years the Cougars (2-1) have had a player throw a no-hitter in a debut, as sophomore pitcher Logan Hulon recorded the historical accomplishment in 2020.
Hudson was nearly flawless against Tigers (0-1), having surrendered just one walk, while striking out four batters in the process. She needed just 61 pitches to get through her five innings of work.

KEY INNINGS
1st | After junior outfielder Bethany Busch sent one back up the middle with a single, redshirt senior infielder Sarah Queen took a two-strike pitch over the wall in leftfield to give Houston a 2-0 lead.
2nd | Senior infiedler Rock Benavides led the bottom of the inning off hooking a shot inside the foul pole and down the leftfield line to push the Cougar lead to three.
3rd | Aggressive base running proved to be worthwhile, as a couple of stolen bases from sophomore Katy Repa, resulted in a runner at third. After Benavides reached base, she then stole second, allowing Repa to score on the throw down.
5th | In the top of the inning, Hudson struck out the side in order. Houston then made the most its opportunities, scoring four runs off of four hits and two errors to seal the 8-0 victory.
