Cougars wrap up homestand to start 2021
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball teams continues its six-game homestand to start the 2021 campaign, welcoming No. 2/3 Oklahoma for a doubleheader Sunday, before hosting Tarleton State Monday.
Sunday will mark the second time in as many years that Houston head coach Kristin Vesely will square up against a familiar face from her playing career, matching up with her former Head Coach Patty Gasso of Oklahoma. In 2020, Houston faced Oregon, which is led by a former assistant under Gasso in Melissa Lombardi, who also mentored Vesely.

- The Cougars opened the season with a 14-1 win over Lamar, marking the fourth season in a row Houston has started the year with a win.
- Freshman pitcher Hailey Hudson threw a no-hitter in her collegiate debut against Texas Southern, finishing with four strikeouts and two walks. Hudson's no-no is the second time in as many years the Cougars have had a player throw a debut no-hitter, which resulted in her earning American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
- Houston's wins over Lamar and Texas Southern improves its record to 19-6 against Texas schools since 2019.
