Junior was a steady leader for the Cougars before 2019-20 season canceled
HOUSTON – University of Houston junior Luke Long was named to the PING All-Central Region Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Thursday afternoon.
In 2019-20, Long was a steady leader for the Cougars before the season was canceled in mid-March due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
The Fayetteville, Ark., native was one of only two Cougars to compete in the starting lineup of every team-scoring tournament. Long led Houston with a 70.71 scoring average, 15 rounds of par or better, eight rounds in the 60s, four Top-10 finishes and six Top-20 showings.
Long opened the season with a seventh-place showing at the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, Texas and followed that with a 12th-place finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational.
With three straight rounds in the 60s – including a career-low 66 in the Final Round, Long finished third at the White Sands Invitational with a score of 10-under 203 and helped lead the Cougars to the team championship in the final tournament of the fall season.
He opened the spring campaign with a 10th-place finish at the Cougars' own All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in February and tied for fifth at the Border Olympics with a score of 4-under 213.
