HUMBLE, Texas – University of Houston junior Andrew Gibson posted his second straight sub-par round and continued to lead the Cougars in fifth place following the Second Round of the All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston on Monday afternoon.
Starting off No. 10, Gibson made back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12-13 and added another birdie on No. 18 after a bogey on No. 14.
The Perthshire, Scotland, native overcame a double bogey on the par-4 second hole with a birdie on No. 3 and drained back-to-back birdies on Nos. 7-8 to finish with a 71 in Monday's action.
Sam Houston State held the second-day lead with a score of 564 to finish three shots ahead of No. 8 Wake Forest. Rice (573), UTSA (573), ULM (576), Louisiana (577), No. 30 South Carolina (582) and Louisiana Tech (585) rounded out the Top-8 leaders.
Sam Houston State's Luis Carrera enjoyed a 66 in Monday's play to stand atop the individual leaderboard at 10-under 34. No. 54 Alex Fitzpatrick stood in second at 138 while Sam Houston State teammates Jack Randle and Ting-Wei Hsieh were tied for third at 139.
Junior Laurence Crea added his second straight round in the red with a 71 and was tied for seventh at 141. A transfer from Prairie View A&M, Crea began off No. 10 and added birdies on No. 12 and No. 16 on his front nine.
The Cypress, Texas, native overcame a bogey on No. 1 with a birdie on the par-4 sixth hole before capping his day with two pars and a bogey.
Junior Luke Long finished with a 71 on Monday and was tied for 13th at 1-under 143. The Fayetteville, Ark., native overcame a start which saw him at +2 through 11 holes with three birdies in his final seven holes of the day.
For the second straight day, senior Matt Cole shot an even-par 72 and was tied for 19th at 144.
Sophomore Braxton Watkins finished the Second Round in a tie for 13th at 143 after shooting a 70. The Winthrop, Ark., native made a pair of birdies on his front nine and followed that with two more birdies on the back nine
Playing as an individual, senior Logan Young posted the team's low round of the day with a 2-under 70. The Normangee Texas, native started his day of No. 10 and quickly birdied two of his first three holes.
After three straight pars he made birdie on the 195-yard, par-3 15th hole and made 10 more pars before enduring his lone bogey of the day at No. 9.
Junior Alexander Frances was tied for 41st at 145. Senior George Gardner was tied for 61st at 152 while freshman Austyn Reily was tied for 68th in his collegiate debut, joining senior Zach Tracy in that group. Senior Alex Isakson stood in 78th at 160.

PAIRINGS
For Tuesday's Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from No. 30 South Carolina and Louisiana Tech beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Reily begins the day off No. 1 at 9:30 a.m., with Gardner (9:39 a.m.), Frances (9:48 a.m.), Watkins (9:57 a.m.) and Long (10:06 a.m.) following.
On the individuals side, Cole begins at 9:03 a.m., off No. 10 with Crea and Young (9:12 a.m.), Gibson (9:21 a.m.), Tracy (9:30 a.m.), and Isakson (9:39 a.m.).

UP NEXT
Following the All-American Intercollegiate, the Cougars will play host to the Border Olympics at Max Mandel Golf Course in Laredo, Texas, on Feb. 24-25. Fans should note that that locations was recently changed from Laredo Country Club due to course renovations.
From there, the Cougars will host the Cabo Collegiate (March 1-3) and Valspar Collegiate Invitational (March 16-17).
