Houston Set to Host Valspar Collegiate

PALM CITY, Fla. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program will continue its spring season when it hosts the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club.
The tournament features 12 nationally ranked teams with five of the Top 10 and eight of the Top 20, including No. 1 Oklahoma State, which won the team championship last year.
Teams will play 18 holes Sunday through Tuesday on the 7,114-yard, par-71 course. Sunday's First Round tees off at 12:30 p.m. (CDT).

THE LINEUP
Sophomore Alexander Frances, senior Matt Williams, junior Zach Tracy, junior Logan Young and freshman Braxton Watkins will represent the Cougars in the Valspar Collegiate.
Sophomore Andrew Gibson and senior Carson Cavner will compete as individuals.
Frances was the team's highest-finisher at the Border Olympics. The Stege, Denmark, native tied for second at 11-under 133, which is a career-best for lowest score after 36 holes.
Watkins earned his first career Top-10 finish at the Border Olympics. The Winthrop, Ark. native finished with 5-under 139. He set career-bests in best finish, finish relative to par, low 36 hole score and low round (69).
TEAM FIELD
The Cougars will host No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Duke, No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 8 Texas, No. 9 Georgia Tech, No. 11 LSU, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 20 USF, No. 23 Baylor, No. 27 Texas A&M, No. 30 Florida State, No. 31 South Carolina, Lamar and UT Arlington.
PAIRINGS
For Sunday's First Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Baylor and USF.
Frances begins play in the first group off No 10 at 12:30 p.m. (CDT) with Young (first group off No. 11), Williams (second group off No. 11), Watkins (No 12) and Tracy (second group off No. 13) following.
Gibson begins off No. 16 with Cavner starting off No, 17.
UP NEXT
Following the Valspar Collegiate, the Cougars will travel to compete in the 3M Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. on April 6-7.
From there, the team will return back to Texas to compete in its regular season finale in the Bayou City Intercollegiate at the Golf Crest Country Club in Pearland on April 15-16.
