HUMBLE, Texas – University of Houston sophomore Alexander Frances and redshirt senior Matt Williams each fired 70s during the First Round of the All-American Intercollegiate to lead the Cougars and tie for third place after 18 holes at the Golf Club of Houston.

As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 286 to finish the first day three strokes behind leader Sam Houston State. No. 37 Baylor stood in second at 284 with UTSA (287), Charlotte (287), Rice (292) and South Carolina (292) rounding out the Top-Seven.

Individually, Baylor's Mark Reppe led all players with a 68, while Blake Elliott (McNeese State) and Noah Steele (Sam Houston State) tied for second at 69. Williams and Gardner joined a group of seven other student-athletes in a tie for fourth at 70.

Williams led the Cougars with six birdies in the First Round, including six on his second nine. The Calgary, Alberta, native opened the tournament with two birdies in his first four holes and added three birdies in a four-hole stretch on his second nine.

Frances drained three birdies in his round with only a pair of bogeys to blemish his scorecard. After making par on his first seven holes, the Stege, Denmark, native enjoyed his first birdie of the day on the par-5 eighth hole.

Despite a bogey to close out his first nine, he followed with birdies on No. 10, No. 13 and No 16 to join Williams in a tie for fourth.

Junior George Gardner posted an even-par 72 to tie for 16^th, while junior Alex Isakson was tied for 38^th at 74 and junior Logan Young was tied for 71^st at 78.

Competing as individuals, senior Carson Cavner and junior Zach Tracy were tied for 38^th at 74, while sophomore Andrew Gibson was tied for 53^rd at 75. Freshman Braxton Watkins was tied for 64^th with a 76.
finished the day tied for 16^th, scoring an even 72. Junior Logan Young finished day one tied for 71^st with a 78.

SECOND-ROUND PAIRINGS
Second-Round play begins at 8 a.m., Monday at Golf Club of Houston. The Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Baylor and Sam Houston State.

Young begins the day at 9:30 a.m., off No. 1, with Isakson (9:39 a.m.), Gardner (9:48 a.m.), Williams (9:57 a.m.) and Frances (10:06 a.m.) following.

Among the individuals, Tracy will start the day for Houston off No. 10 at 8:54 a.m., with Cavner, Gibson and Watkins (9:30 a.m.) following.

UP NEXT
Following the All-American Intercollegiate, the Cougars will compete at the Cabo Collegiate on March 3-5 at Querencia Golf Club in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.

From there, the team will host the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on March 11-12.
