Cougars pick up first win in program history over Sooners
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team knocked off Oklahoma in an 85-69 decision on Saturday afternoon in the Fertitta Center behind five double-digit scoring efforts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Houston led from start to finish as the Cougars set the tone early with a 9-0 run, highlighted by two buckets underneath from Maya Jones. Oklahoma would manage to tie things ups right before the first media timeout of the ball game, but that's as close as the Sooners would get. Dorian Branch, Tatyana Hill and Julia Blackshell-Fair would all sinks baskets before the break, highlighted by a on-the-run buzzer-beater from Branch to ignite the crowd and give Houston a 28-16 lead entering the second quarter.
Oklahoma would play with a purpose in the second frame, outscoring the Cougars 19-12 in the frame. The Cougars made it count on the boards though, outscoring Oklahoma 6-0 in second chance points. Hill cleaned the glass for Houston with five rebounds in the frame. OU would go on a 10-6 run to close out the second quarter and still trail by 40-35 at the half.
Houston came out energized in the third quarter, outscoring OU 23-15 in the frame and holding them 0-of-3 from long-range. The Houston bench got involved, outscoring the Sooner bench 12-4. Jazmaine Lewis and Bria Patterson played valuable minutes for the Cougars combining for eight points as Patterson accounted for two of Houston's four made three-pointers in the frame. The Cougars would head to the final quarter leading Oklahoma 63-50.
Oklahoma put up strong offensive effort in the final ten minutes of regulation, but it wouldn't be enough as the Cougars closed out the game with 40.0 percent shooting in the fourth quarter. Houston would hit 9-of-13 from the charity stripe and, holding the Sooners to 30.4 percent shooting from the field. The Cougars would ultimately earn its second straight win of the season and remain spotless at home with the 85-69 win.
