Houston Opens Play in Canada with No. 16/18 Syracuse

Cougars begin action at Greater Victoria invitational on Thursday
VICTORIA. B.C. – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team will begin play at the Greater Victoria Invitational presented by the city of Langford on Thursday when the Cougars face No. 16/18 Syracuse.

Thursday's meeting is the first all-time between the two teams.
COUGAR FAST BREAK
• Houston enters Saturday's game with a 3-2 overall record this season after most recently defeating Oklahoma at the Fertitta Center.
• Houston has three players averaging double-digits this season led by Jasmyne Harris with 14.6 points per game, she is followed by Tatyana Hill who secured a career-high 19 points against HBU and is averaging 12.8 points per game. Dorian Branch is third in scoring on the team providing 11.8 points per game.
• Houston is averaging 70.8 points per game which is second in the conference on 39.0 percent shooting from the field and a 24.5 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 68.8 points per game on defense while letting opponents shoot 38.8 percent and 32.1 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.
• Hill leads Houston on the glass, pulling down 8.2 rebounds per contest • Houston has forced 106 turnovers by its opponents this season, with 20 or more forced turnovers in four of its five games. Under Coach Hughey, Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country over the past two seasons. The Cougars enter the game ranked 142nd nationally in steals (46) and 118th in steals per game (9.2) and 48th in turnovers forced (21.20). Houston enters the tournament 60th nationally in blocks with 25 this season.

• Syracuse enters Thursday's contest with an 3-1 overall record. The Orange most recently fell to Oregon in a 81-64 decision.
•Syracuse is averaging 67.5 points per game on 38.2 percent shooting from the field and 31.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
• Syracuse enters its 14th season under Head Coach Quentin Hillsman and is led in scoring by Kiara Lewis who is averaging 15.0 points per game. Emily Engstler leads the Orange on the boards with 9.8 rebounds per game, as Lewis leads the squad with 25 assists this season.
