Cougars to face in-state foe before kicking off season at Houston Baptist
HOUSTON – Houston will close out fall camp with an exhibition match against in-state foe Stephen F. Austin, Sunday at 6 p.m. inside the Carl Lewis Complex.

Houston will open its 2018 season on the road at Houston Baptist on Aug. 17, before visiting Lamar on Aug. 19. The match at HBU is slated for a 7 p.m. start time at Randy and Cheryl Sorrels Field.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
- The Cougars are primed to begin their second season under Head Coach Diego Bocanegra
- Last season Houston notched its highest win total (3) in conference play since joining The American in 2013.
WHO TO WATCH
- Houston returns over 54 percent of its scoring from last season, a portion of which came from preseason All-Conference selection Jazmin Grant.
- Grant closed out her freshman season with All-Conference Second Team and All-Rookie team honors after finishing second on the team in scoring with five points and five assists for a total of 15 points.
- Adding to the offensive firepower for the Cougars is sophomore Mia Brascia. Brascia closed out her freshman season with four goals, including the game winning goal against then-No. 21 Cincinnati.
- Defensively juniors Julissa DePaoli and Lauren Flowers, along with senior Sevie Cole return to help anchor a backline that posted three shutouts last season. Both Flowers and Cole registered an assist each last season.
- Senior goalkeeper Rachel Estopare returns for the Cougars after recording 92 saves last season. Estopare was credited for two shutouts last season, earning two Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
- Houston welcomes 13 newcomers to campus in a recruiting class that features players from California, Colorado, Florida, Texas and New Zealand.
SCOUTING THE LADYJACKS
- Stephen F. Austin is entering its sixth season under Wally Crittenden
- Last season SFA posted an overall record of 12-8-1, including an 8-3 mark in the Southland Conference
- Before heading to Houston, the Ladyjacks will host Louisiana-Monroe in exhibition Friday at 5 p.m.
- SFA returns 14 letter winners from last season, nine of whom started in multiple matches.
CELEBRATING 20 YEARS
- The Houston Soccer program is excited to celebrate 20 years of Houston soccer this season. The team unveiled a logo on June 14 that represents 20 years of Houston soccer. The logo is featured on one of the three uniforms that the Cougars will wear throughout the season.
