The first four minutes of Saturday's game played tight, with each team being held scoreless for the first minute until Aisia Robertson connected on a layup for UNM. Houston tied the game on a 3-pointer from Serithia Hawkins and a free throw from Jasmyne Harris, but the Lobos would rattle off six of the next eight points to take a 10-6 advantage.
Houston would battle back though, cutting the lead to 12-11, after Jasmyne Harris scored five straight points on a layup and a 3-pointer, and the two squads would trade points the remainder of the quarter with New Mexico holding a 19-15 lead after one. Harris paced the Cougars with six points in the quarter, but New Mexico outshot the Cougars 50.0 percent to 30.0 percent to take the early advantage.
New Mexico caught fire to start the second half and scored 11 of the first 13 points in the frame. Jaisa Nunn tabbed seven of her 21 points in the spurt, while Robertson added the other four to build the largest lead of the contest at 30-17 with 8:06 to play in the half.
Houston would fight back however, using an 8-2 run to pull back to within seven with 5:07 remaining. Serithia Hawkins started the spurt with a 3-pointer, and following a Robertson bucket, Alyssa Okoene score on a layup before Angela Harris capped the run with a 3-pointer of her own. However, New Mexico's 50.0 percent shooting from the field gave the Lobos the five-point lead at the break.
Defenses took over in the second half, and the third quarter saw just nine points scored in the first 3:40 of play. Jasmyne Harris and Nunn traded buckets to open the quarter, before Okoene made a pair of free throws and Harris connected on a fast-break layup to cut the lead to one at 45-44.
New Mexico built their lead back to six with a bucket from Jayla Everett and a 3-pointer from Anderson, but the Cougars answered right back with a triple of their own from Jasmyne Harris, followed by a layup from the junior to make the score 50-49 with 3:47 to play. Following a Lobo bucket, Houston tied the game on a Jones 3-pointer with 1:35 remaining in the quarter, before taking their first lead of the contest, when Harris drilled a 3-ball to beat the buzzer and give Houston a 55-52 advantage after three.
Houston forced seven more turnovers in the third quarter and held the Lobos to 19.0 percent (4-of-21) shooting in the period. The Cougars outscored UNM 17-9 in the third to pull back into the game.

Following another 3-pointer from Everett, Jones cut the lead back to two at 61-59 after a pair of free throws, heading into the media timeout.
Houston clawed their way back into the game twice over the final four minutes, closing the lead to one on an Octavia Barnes jumper with 1:46 remaining. On the next possession, Hurst hit a 3-pointer to push the lead back to four with 57 seconds to play, but just 18 seconds later, Jasmyne Harris hit the answer to cut the lead to 67-66. New Mexico would add a free throw on their next scoring possession, but with 1.7 seconds remaining Angela Harris was fouled from beyond the 3-point line, where she connected on 2-of-3, to send the game to overtime tied at 68.
New Mexico raced out to a seven-point lead in the first overtime period, thanks to a pair of free throws from Robertson, a 3-pointer from Everett and a layup from Hurst. The Cougars would answer however, with an 8-0 run of their own to regain the lead. Jasmyne Harris started the spark with a layup, and after Dorian Branch knocked down a pair from the line, Angela Harris and Hawkins capped the run with buckets of their own.
New Mexico would tie the game with 11 seconds remaining after Robertson made 1-of-2 from the free throw line, but the Cougars could not convert in the final 10 seconds, so the game went to the second overtime tied at 76. Saturday's game marked just the seventh game to go at least two overtimes in Houston history, but the second this season after a double-overtime win over Georgia Tech on Nov. 9.
