The Cougars enter this weekend's event on the heels of a fifth-place finish at the 3M Augusta Invitational on April 5. It was the team's seventh top-five finish of the season and the 92nd during director of golf Jonathan Dismuke's tenure.
HOUSTON'S LINEUP
Dismuke and associate head coach Ryke Dismuke (no relation) recently announced that seniors Roman Robledo and Kyle Pilgrim, junior Blair Hamilton, sophomore Matt Scobie and freshman Michael Perras will represent the Cougars at the Kepler Intercollegiate.
This marks the third straight tournament the Cougars will use this startling lineup.
Robledo has been a leader for the Cougars throughout his four-year career. The 2014 All-American is a close second on the team with a 72.24 scoring average but tops the Cougars with 16 rounds of par or better.
He has enjoyed four top-10 finishes this season with second-place showings at the Miramont Invitational and Border Olympics and has shot par or lower in 10 of his last 13 rounds. In his last outing, he moved past 10,000 strokes during his Houston career, becoming only the eighth player in school history to reach that milestone
Hamilton has emerged as one of the Cougars' top performers with his recent play. The Burlington, Ontario, Canada, native has fired sub-par rounds in eight of his last nine rounds, including a career-low 67 in the First Round of the Border Olympics on March 13 and in the Second Round of the 3M Augusta Invitational on April 4.
With his recent play, he moved into the team lead with a 72.12 scoring average and stands second on the team with 14 rounds of par or better.
Pilgrim enjoyed one of this best showings of the season at the recent 3M Augusta Invitational. The Colleyville, Texas, native fired three straight sub-par rounds, including a Final-Round 68, to surge into a tie for ninth place for his second top-10 finish in 2014-15.
This season, Pilgrim is one of three Cougars with double-digit sub-par rounds (10) and is third on the team with a 73.65 scoring average.
Perras will compete in his 10th tournament during his first collegiate season. The Deer Park High product has enjoyed a pair of top-20 finishes this season, including a third-place showing at the Miramont Invitational on Oct. 13-14, 2014.
Scobie will make his sixth appearance for the Cougars this season. The Ajax, Ontario, Canada, native enjoyed a career-day at the Border Olympics. With his opening-round 64, he became only the seventh player in school history to shoot 64 or lower and only the second player to do so in the First Round of any tournament, joining Ed Fiori.
UP NEXT
This will be one of two tournaments in which the Cougars will compete this weekend. On Sunday, Houston will send junior Vincent Martino, sophomore Emmett Oh, redshirt freshmen Joshua Gibbons and Papito Gonzalez and freshman Alan De Bondt to the one-day, 36-hole Reveille Challenge at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas, on Sunday.
Following this weekend, the Cougars begin postseason play when they tee off at the American Athletic Conference Championships on April 26-28 on The Quarry Course at Black Diamond Ranch in LeCanto, Fla.
