Mowbray Among Top 20 Leaders at NCAA Golf Central Regional

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - University of Houston golfer Zach Mowbray stood in a tie for 17th place Thursday after the first day at the NCAA Central Regional.
The Cougars' sophomore co-captain posted a score of 1-over-par 73 during the first 18 holes to join Illinois' Garrett Chaussard, Arkansas' Andrew Dahl, Kentucky' John Holmes, Purdue's Shiv Kapur, TCU's J.J. Killeen, Oklahoma State's Tyler Leon and Wichita State's Jesse Schulte there.
The three-day tournament continues with another 18 holes on Friday morning on the 7,259-yard, par-72 course at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
Texas' Jason Hartwick, Texas A&M's Andrew Parr and Oklahoma State's Casey Wittenberg stood atop the individual leaderboard after the first day after shooting 3-under-par 69.
Oklahoma State grabbed the first-day team lead after shooting 1-under-par 287. The Cowboys were the only team to shoot under par during the first day.
Texas A&M (292), Purdue (295), Texas (298), Kentucky (298), Kansas State (300), Kent State (301), Minnesota (302), Wichita State (302), Ohio State (302), SMU (302) rounded out the Top 11 leaders
The top 10 teams and the top 2 individuals not from those teams qualify for the NCAA Championships on June 1-4 in Hot Springs, Va.
Mowbray's appearance in the NCAA postseason marks the 16th consecutive season that a Cougar golfer or team has competed in the postseason. A year ago, Brett Callas became the second player in school history to win the NCAA Central Regional individual championship.
