Charles Cunneff joined Houston Soccer staff in July 2020 as a Student Manager. He was elevated to Associate Director of Operations in July 2022. Cunneff prides himself on taking every opportunity to elevate Houston Soccer in any way possible.
His primary responsibilities include arranging and implementing team travel, estimating the program’s budget, overseeing apparel, equipment and assisting with the tactical analytics department. Additionally, Cunneff onboards recruits, transfer players, carries out ID camps, special events, oversees the student manager role and all day-to-day operational duties.
He also coordinates with Houston Athletics’ Marketing department to sponsor local club teams at home games in efforts to expand team outreach in Houston and increase match attendance.
Prior to assuming the associate director position, Cunneff served as a student manager and interim assistant coach. He also served as an interim assistant coach from Jan-March 2022. During this period, Cunneff oversaw the functionality of training sessions as well as orchestrated and implemented goalkeeper training.
As a manager, Cunneff was a member of the 2021 American Athletic Conference’s Staff of the Year. In his role, he oversaw all team catering, travel meal arrangements and formulated travel itineraries for players and staff during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Cunneff held optional training sessions for all players during non-practice periods in the off season.
Behind the scenes, Cunneff administered team laundry, oversaw responsibility for inventory and design of the entire team's apparel & equipment.
For all matches, Charles was responsible for team sheet exchanges with the opposition team, referees and announcement tables for home and away games. He oversaw the assembly and execution of training sessions and game day preparations by arranging cones, balls, goals, bibs and other necessary equipment in an organized fashion to provide a smooth and fast transition between exercises.
In addition to Houston Soccer, Cunneff works as head coach with Albion Hurricanes FC Pre-ECNL program, overseeing six teams across three age groups in the top two divisions of USCTX (7v7, 9v9 and 11v11).
Holding two U.S. Soccer coaching licenses, Cunneff is motivated to continue his passion for soccer by furthering his coaching education to provide the next generation of soccer players with the support, expertise and inspiration necessary for reaching the next level.
Cunneff plans to further his education with USSF & UEFA to achieve his goal of serving as a Technical Director of an “FC”.
Originally from Sugar Land, Texas, Cunneff graduated from University of Houston with a bachelor’s of science in sport administration, magna cum laude in May 2022.
