Swimming & Diving Collect Six First Place Finishes on Saturday

Cougars top competition at Big 12 East Showdown
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team scored six first place finishes following the second and last day of competition at the Big 12 East Showdown at the CRWC Natatorium on Saturday.
The Cougars topped the competition with a final score of 1292 followed by Cincinnati (1172), TCU (1031), West Virginia (807) and Iowa State (781).
Junior Evelyn Entrekin scored the Cougars first top mark of the day in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:00.69.
Senior Liya Goupil touched the wall in first position in her only individual event of the day. The Reunion Island, France native topped the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 49.75.
Junior Sydney Nethercutt scored the third top mark of the day in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.94.
Freshman Emma Overall made waves in the 1650-yard freestyle landing a first-place finish and a new personal best in the event (16:36.62).
Sophomore Alexia Duncan continues her streak on the leader board in the backstroke events touching the wall in first in the 200-yard with a time of 1:55.95.
In the diving event, junior Michelle McLeod scored top marks in the platform competition (293.70) followed by sophomore Caroline Roelen in second (282.95).
UP NEXT
Houston will play host to Rice at 11 a.m. on January 31 at CRWC Natatorium. The dual-meet will recognize the senior student-athletes before the meet.
