PREVIEW: Swimming & Diving Gear Up for Home Dual-Meet Against Rice

Cougars take on Owls are CRWC Natatorium
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team will host Rice in its final home dual-meet at 11 a.m., Saturday at CRWC Natatorium. Seniors Noor El Gendy, Liya Goupil, Landry Hadder, Jenna Kerkman and Virag Peter will be honored during the senior ceremony set to begin at approximately 10:40 a.m. Admission to the meet is free.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars delivered a strong showing at the Big 12 East Showdown at the CRWC Natatorium, finishing atop the field with 1,292 points over two days of competition.
Junior Evelyn Entrekin led the way with a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 2:00.69.
Senior Liya Goupil captured the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.75, while junior Sydney Nethercutt followed with a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.94).
Freshman Emma Overall added to Houston's scoring with a victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle, posting a personal-best time of 16:36.62.
Sophomore Alexia Duncan continued her success in the backstroke events, winning the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.95.
On the boards, junior Michelle McLeod claimed first place in the platform competition with a score of 293.70.
BIG 12 HONORS
McLeod continues to make waves in the conference this season taking home her fourth Big 12 Diver of the Week award. Her award this week marked the fifth of her career.
NCAA CUTS
Six Houston student-athletes have collected NCAA Cuts across five events. McLeod has clinched NCAA Zone Cuts in all three diving events while sophomore Caroline Roelen and freshman Maisy Woloszyn have clinched Zone Cuts in the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions.
