Six-time AAC Diving Coach of the Year earns first in Big 12
HOUSTON – Houston Swimming & Diving Head Diving Coach Bob Gunter was announced as the Big 12 Diving Coach of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday.Â
Â
This award marks the seventh conference Diving Coach of the Year after he previously took home the title six times in Houston's stint in the American Athletic Conference.
Â
Gunter has spent the last 11 seasons coaching the Cougars, sending three student-athletes to NCAAs in the last three seasons to compete in a combined 10 events.Â
Â
This season, Gunter led his team to the first individual Big 12 Conference win in program history after freshman Maisy Woloszyn took home the win in the 3-meter diving competition. Junior diver Michelle McLeod claimed another win for the Cougars after her performance on the platform. The team placed third in the team diving event.Â
Â
Woloszyn was later named Big 12 Freshman of the Meet and McLeod Big 12 Diver of the Meet following their performance at conference.Â
Â
Both divers advanced to NCAAs with McLeod competing in all three events for the Cougars and Woloszyn on the 3-meter.Â
Â
Gunter pushed his team to seven new personal best diving scores this season with Woloszyn earning top personal marks in all three events.Â
