Swimming & Diving Wins Last Dual-Meet Against Rice

Cougars dominate at home, 152-81
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team defeated Rice, 152-81 and recorded 12 first place finishes on Saturday at the CRWC Natatorium in its final dual-meet of the season.
Starting the meet off on a high note, the 400-yard medley relay team of sophomore Alexia Duncan, junior Evelyn Entrekin, senior Noor El Gendy and senior Liya Goupil swept the competition by three seconds with a time of 3:36.63.
The Cougars followed this up by winning eight consecutive events.
Sophomore Sienna Bruner continued the winning streak in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.82.
Duncan continued the lead with two top finishes in the backstroke events. She finished the 100-yard with a time of 54.06 and the 200-yard with a time of 1:58.60.
Junior Sydney Nethercutt landed in the top position in the 200-yard butterfly after touching the wall at 1:58.33.
Goupil led the way in both the 50-yard (23.35) and 100-yard freestyle (50.45) events to extend the win streak.
Junior Evelyn Entrekin scored the top position with a time of 1:01.88 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Senior Virag Peter won the final individual event of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:13.42.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Goupil, senior Jenna Kerkman, Bruner and junior Manita Sathianchokwisan closed out the meet, securing the victory with a time of 4:20.16.
On the boards, junior diver Michelle McLeod claimed the top positions in the 1-meter (296.78) and 3-meter (331.50) competitions.
UP NEXT
Houston will host its last home meet of the season at the First Chance Meet at CWRC Natatorium Feb. 6-7. The meet is expected to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
