
Hudson Weibel Finishes Among Top-Seven Leaders at Cabo Collegiate

Junior drains seven birdies on way to Final-Round 67 at Twin Dolphin Club on Tuesday
CABO SAN LUCAS, BCS, Mexico & SUGAR LAND, Texas – For the second time in three days, University of Houston Men's Golf junior Hudson Weibel posted a score in the 60s to lead the Cougars during the Final Round of the Cabo Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon.
Competing on the 7,156-yard, par-72 course at Twin Dolphin Club, Weibel drained seven birdies on the team to a 4-under 67. He opened the tournament with a 69 on Sunday.
The Dallas native finished seventh with a three-day, 54-hole score of 4-under 209. It was his third Top-10 finish in the Cougars' last four tournaments and fourth straight Top-25 showing.
As a team, Houston finished 14th with a score of 887.
Senior Wolfgang Glawe tied for 50th at 222 while senior Laurenz Schiergen tied for 54th at 225. Junior Bryant Hiskey tied for 68th at 232, and sophomore Chi Chun Chen finished 77th at 236.
Arizona State captured the team championship with a score of 837 to finish six shots ahead of Oklahoma State. Florida State (852), Arkansas (856), Tennessee (861), Texas Tech (866), Stanford (871), Arizona (872), Vanderbilt (873) and Rice (876) rounded out the Top 10 leaders.
Pongsapak Laopakdee (Arizona State), Preston Stout (Oklahoma State), and Tyler Weaver (Florida State) shared the individual title at 8-under 205. Oklahoma State's Ethan Fang finished fourth at 206 while Thomas Curry (Arkansas) and Michael Mjaaseth (Arizona State) tied for fifth at 208.
COLIN MONTGOMERIE INVITATIONAL
Freshman Hsuan-Yi Chen fired an even-par 71 for the second straight round to tie for 10th at 217 and lead three Houston individuals during the Final Round of the Colin Montgomerie Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
Starting off No. 14 on the 6,730-yard, par-71 course at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas, Chen sank a birdie on his second hole but endured consecutive bogeys on Nos. 16-17 and fell to +2 with his final bogey at No. 6.
Fortunately, the Daxi, Taiwan, native rebounded with birdies on two of his final three holes to finish the round at 71 and the tournament at 218.
After opened the tournament with a 71, sophomore Grant Doggett posted a 71 of his own and finished 12th at 218. Like Chen, the Beach City, Texas, native ended the tournament strong with two birdies during his final four holes.
Junior Ruben Lindsey tied for 56th with a score of 233.
New Mexico Junior College posted a two-day, 54-hole score of 866 to finish two shots ahead of Abilene Christian and capture the team title. NMJC's Elisa Pettersson earned medalist honors with a score of 3-under 210 to finish one stroke in front of Incarnate Word's Joe Buenfeld.
UP NEXT
Following the Cabo Collegiate, the Cougars return to Houston to play host to their All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in. Humble, Texas, on March 17-18.
From there, Houston hosts its final tournament of the season at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, set for March 24-25 at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City.
The Cougars then close their regular-season slate when they tee off at the Thunderbird Intercollegiate at Papago Golf Club in Tempe, Ariz., on April 11-12.
