Men’s Golf Finishes Second at Argent Financial Class

Senior Jacob Borow, sophomore Chi Chun Chen tie for fifth at 3-under 213
CHOUDRANT, La. – University of Houston senior Jacob Borow and sophomore Chi Chun Chen each finished at 3-under 213 to finish among the Top-Five individual leaders and guide the Cougars to a second-place team showing at the season-opening Argent Financial Classic on Tuesday.
As a team, the Cougars finished with a score of 860 on the 7,105-yard, par-72 course at Squire Creek Country Club.
Chen joined senior Wolfgang Glawe in posting the Cougars' low round of the day with a 72 Tuesday. He enjoyed the best finish of his young collegiate career, topping his eighth-place showing at the All-American Intercollegiate Individual on March 18-19.
Borow led Houston with five birdies in his Final Round and recorded the eighth Top-10 finish of his career and first since winning the HCU Colin Montgomerie Invitational on March 4-5.
Glawe posted the 10th Top-20 showing of his career and tied for 14th at 217.
Junior Hudson Weibel tied for 29th at 220 while senior Laurenz Schiergen tied for 34th at 221. Playing as an individual, sophomore Grant Doggett tied for 83rd at 230.
Troy captured the team championship with a score of 857 to finish three shots ahead of Houston. Rice (870), Little Rock (870) and Louisiana (872) rounded out the Top-Five schools.
Rice's Lukas Boandl earned medalist honors with a score of 10-under 206 to finish two shots in front of Troy's Nick Fowlkes. South Alabama's Joshua Hill finished third at 210 while Middle Tennessee's JJ Zimmer finished fourth at 211.
Borow and Chen joined UAB's Morgan Slaton in a tie for fifth.

Following the Argent Financial Classic, the Cougars return to action and close the month at the Windon Memorial Classic at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill., on Sept. 29-30.
From there, Houston tees off at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas on Oct. 7-9. A year ago, the Cougars upset No. 2 seed Oklahoma in the First Round and finished fourth.
The Cougars then close their fall season at the White Sands Intercollegiate at The Ocean Club in Paradise Island, Bahamas, on Oct. 25-27.
