Men’s Golf Finishes First Day at Windon Memorial Classic

LAKE FOREST, Ill. & HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Golf program stood in 11^th place before the Second Round of the Windon Memorial Classic was suspended due to darkness at Conway Farms Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.

After opening with a team total of 300 in the morning, the Cougars bettered that score by 14 strokes before play was halted in the afternoon on the par-71, 7,432-yard course. Student-athletes will complete the Second Round on Monday before an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start for the Final Round.

Senior Laurenz Schiergen posted back-to-back 71s and was tied for 19^th at +2 to lead the Cougars. Senior Jacob Borow and junior Hudson Weibel were tied for 35^th at +5 while sophomore Chi Chun Chen was tied for 45^th at +6. Senior Wolfgang Glawe was tied for +9 at 151.

Arizona held the first-day lead at -6 while host Northwestern stood in second at -5. Marquette stood in third at +1 with South Florida (+4), Pepperdine (+5), Illinois (+6), Kentucky (+13), Indiana (+13) and Notre Dame (+15) completed the Top-10 leaders.

Marquette's Patrick Adler stood atop the individual leaderboard at -9 to stand two strokes ahead of Northwestern's Cameron Adam. Jacob Modleski (Notre Dame), Daniel Svard (Northwestern), Tiger Christensen (Arizona), and Max Herendeen (Illinois) were tied for third at -4 with Mahanth Chirravuri (Pepperdine) and Johnny Walker (Arizona) tied for seventh at -3.

The Windon Memorial Classic concludes with the final 18 holes Monday.

Juniors Bryant Hiskey II and Ruben Lindsay and sophomore Grant Doggett will compete as individuals at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, beginning Monday morning at Westwood Golf Club in Houston in a recent addition to the Cougars' fall schedule.

That Cougar trio will play 36 holes Monday with the Final Round teeing off Tuesday morning.

TEE TIMES
For Monday's Windon Memorial Classic Final Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Marquette, Purdue and UC Davis in an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start.

Chen begins the day off No. 9 with Borow (No. 10), Glawe (No. 11), Schiergen (first group off No. 12) and Weibel (second group off No.12) following.

For Monday's action at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Sam Houston, Oklahoma State and Houston Christian.

Lindsay starts the tournament in the first group off No. 17 with Dogget (second group off No. 17) and Hiskey (No. 18) following.

UP NEXT
Following the Windon Memorial Classic, Houston tees off at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas on Oct. 7-9. A year ago, the Cougars upset No. 2 seed Oklahoma in the First Round and finished fourth.

The Cougars then close their fall season at the White Sands Intercollegiate at The Ocean Club in Paradise Island, Bahamas, on Oct. 25-27.
