Houston faces a ranked opponent to open its season for the first time in program history
HOUSTON – The University of Houston soccer team opens its 2024 campaign against #17 Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday at 7 p.m. It is the first time that the Cougars will face a ranked opponent in its season opener in program history.
The game will be streamed on SEC Network + with Lincoln Rose (pxp) and Jessica Stamp (analyst) calling the action. Live stats will be available here.

Houston hosts Sam Houston in its home opener on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Carl Lewis International Complex. The match can be seen on ESPN+ with live stats available here.

ABOUT THE COUGARS
- Houston is in its third season under Head Coach Jaime Frias.
- The Cougars return their two leading scorers in junior forward Cameryn Maddox  (7) and sophomore midfielder Aryanna Jimison (5).
- Jimison was named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team, marking the first player in program history to garner Big 12 preseason honors.
- Houston welcomes 11 newcomers to the roster, including seven freshmen and four transfers.
- Among those transfers are senior midfielder Jocelyn Alonzo, who was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team and All-Conference Second Team in 2021 while at Memphis.
- Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Dietrich is six saves away from entering the top 10 in career saves in program history. Dietrich is top 10 in three other statistical categories (wins, ties and games started by a goalie).
- Texas is led by Angela Kelly, who is in her 13th season leading the Longhorns.
- After more than 25 years in the Big 12, the Longhorns moved to the Southeastern Conference in July 2024.
- Texas returns its two leading scores in All-Americans Lexi Missimo and Trinity Byars.
- Missimo is the NCAA Division 1 women's soccer active leader in career assists per match (0.77), points per match (2.11), assists (51) and points (139).
- Houston meets Texas for the eighth time in program history.
- Texas leads the series 6-1, with the lone Cougar win coming in Austin (3-2OT, Sept. 9, 2000)
- Last meeting: Texas defeated Houston 6-1 (Oct. 15, 2023).
