Key Innings
1st | After the Huskies claimed a one-run lead in the top of the first, Houston answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. A walk and a single put runners on the corners and a double-steal allowed junior Turiya Coleman to score. Rollin scored later in the inning on a fielding error to put Houston ahead, 2-1.
4th | HCU tied the game with a run in the third, but Houston quickly reclaimed the lead in the fourth. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases and back-to-back singles from Nitta and Rollin plated a trio of runners, giving the Cougars a 5-2 lead.
5th | The Huskies fought back in the fifth, using a three-run homer as well as a capitalizing on a Houston defensive miscue to plate five runs, putting HCU in front, 7-5.
Houston swiftly put itself back in front in the home half of the frame. After three of the first four batters in the inning reached, back-to-back walks pushed two runs across to even the score, 7-7, and leave the bases loaded. Nitta forced an error to drive home another run while four singles in five at-bats from Rollin, graduate Kennedy Thomas, graduate Shelby Smith and freshman Bethany Aguilar each drove home a run to grant the Cougars a 12-7 lead.
7th | While HCU cut into Houston's edge with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh, graduate Taylor Edwards shut the door on any chance of a comeback, sealing a 12-10 win for the Cougars.
