Houston keeps Cowgirls close but three Oklahoma State home runs are difference-maker; Sunday’s game time adjusted due to expected inclement weather

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team found itself in a pitching duel against #7/#6 Oklahoma State, ultimately falling 3-1 to the Cowgirls at Cougar Softball Stadium on Friday night.

In a game where all four runs were scored via home runs, the Cougars (22-15, 3-10 Big 12) were led by junior Lair Beautae who hit her seventh homer of the season. Houston has now hit 37 home runs on the year, more than the team has hit in nine of its 23 seasons of play.

Graduate Shelby Smith (10-6) spun a complete-game for Houston in the circle but earned the loss. Lexi Kilfoyl (14-2) picked up the complete-game win for the Cowgirls (31-6, 10-3 Big 12).

Key Innings
2^nd | Oklahoma State clinched an early lead as Caroline Wang hit a solo home-run to center, her 12^th of the season.

5^th | After the Cowgirls added another run in the top of the fifth with another solo shot, this time off the bat of Jilyen Poullard, Houston answered with a solo homer of its own courtesy of Beautae. The long-ball was the 16^th of her career.

6^th | Oklahoma State added an insurance run, again via a solo home run, in the top of the sixth as Rosie Davis sent a ball over the left-center field fence. Oklahoma State's 3-1 lead held for the remainder, clinching the series opening win for the Cowgirls.

UP NEXT
Houston continues the three-game set against Oklahoma State with a 2 p.m. start on Saturday. Sunday's series finale has been moved to 11 a.m. due to expected inclement weather.
