Cougars win six events in loss to Mustangs
HOUSTON – The University of Houston lost its last home meet of the season to SMU, 125.5-114.5, at the CRWC Natatorium on Saturday.

Houston won six events, capturing 18 podiums in the dual meet against the Mustangs.Â

Sydney Nethercutt started Houston's day strong, taking first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a 10:24.22 swim. Maddie Wallin also claimed third (10:40.85) in the event.

Fifth-year Chase Farris continued her successful final season, taking first in the 1-meter with a score of 311.63 and second in the 3-meter with a score of 301.35. Hedda Grelz took the top spot above Farris in the 3-meter (307.35).

Audrey McKinnon swam to a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.53), with Virag Peter touching the wall just behind her in third at 2:17.68. Meanwhile, Alondra Ortiz took first in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:02.28 while Abbie Alvarez finished third in the same event with a 2:03.71.Â

Elizabeth Jimenez earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.51) and Danielle Titus finished just after Jimenez in third (2:01.67).Â

In the 500-yard freestyle, Sydney Nethercutt claimed second place with a 5:03.81 while Landry Hadder took third with a 5:09.84. To close Houston's individual event podiums, Evelyne Entrekin finished third (1:53.20) in the 200-yard freestyle and Liya Goupil swam a 23.48 in the 50-yard freestyle, also for third place.Â

Houston's A-Relay of Jimenez, Henrietta Fangli, Alvarez and Goupil took third in the 200-yard medley relay with a 1:43.10. In the 200-yard free relay, the A-Relay of Goupil, Mary Catherine Jurica, Megan Unruh and Anna Ervin finished third with a 1:35.54 while the B-Relay of Titus, Bella Lojewski, Nethercutt and Ortiz earned second with a 1:38.65.Â
