Blair moves into fourth in program history in points, Love records double-double
ARLINGTON, Texas – Graduate guard Laila Blair moved into fourth place in program history in points and graduate guard Eylia Love recorded a double-double as the University of Houston Women's Basketball program fell to UT Arlington, 61-57, on Wednesday evening inside College Park Center.
Blair scored 18 points against the Mavericks, bringing her career total to 1,685, surpassing Courtney Taylor's (2007-11) 1,684 career points. The Houston native needs 68 points to move into third place.
Love recorded her second double-double of the season and the fourth of her career with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
After scoring the opening basket, Houston (2-7) used a 5-0 spurt to take an early 7-2 lead, but nine points from Avery Brittingham kept the Mavericks (3-5) close. Sophomore guard Summer Bostock knocked down two 3-pointers as the Cougars took a 17-12 lead heading into the second frame.
UT Arlington scored five straight to tie the game at 17, but the Cougars responded with a 5-0 run of their own. Houston notched a 7-0 surge and took a 37-32 lead into the locker room. Blair scored eight of her 18 points in the second quarter.
Houston struggled to score in the second half, shooting 20.6 percent from the field. The Mavericks took advantage with a 12-0 run to take a 46-41 lead. Love scored four points, but UT Arlington held a narrow 50-48 edge heading into the final frame.
The shooting slump continued for the Cougars in the final frame, and the Mavericks capitalized on a 7-0 run to open the fourth quarter. Love scored six of the nine points for Houston in the final frame, but it would not be enough.
