Cox, Meyer post top three finishes; men finish second, women’s fifth
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Sophomore Miles Cox set a new personal best with a time of 24:12.4 in the 8k race to lead the Houston cross country team to a second-place men's team finish at the Texas A&M Invitational Friday morning while senior Claire Meyer finished third overall for the women.
Brothers, Cox and Branch Cox, led the way on the men's side, with the latter finishing 10th with a time of 24:30.1, also a new personal best. Rounding out the scoring five were senior Brandon Seagreaves (17th) who finished in 24:49.4 and freshmen, both of whom raced in their first collegiate 8k race, Aaron Crittenden (20th) finishing in 24:56.7 and Michael Archie (44th) who crossed the line at 25:27.3.
Houston's men, with their second-place finish, beat TCU's men which finished fourth overall. The higher team finish cements the cross country team as the school's first team to finish with a better score in any sport against Big 12 Conference competition as members of the league. The Cougars finished with 90 points compared to the Horned Frogs' 131 points.
On the women's side, Meyer helped grab a fifth-place team finish with her time of 17:31.4 in the 5k race. Senior Kelly-Ann Beckford finished her first race of the season in 18:34.8, a new personal best, to grab 19th overall. Other scoring contributors were senior Zosia Bulhak (25th) with a time of 18:45.8, junior Eleni Kaiser (48th) who finished in 19:20 and freshmen Carly Ahrens (77th) finishing with a time of 20:06.0 in her first collegiate 5k race.
