Men’s Golf Ends Season at NCAA Auburn Regional

Junior Santiago De La Fuente shoots 2-under 70 in Final Round; Ties with super senior Braxton Watkins for team lead
AUBURN, Ala. – University of Houston junior Santiago De La Fuente posted a 2-under 70 to lead the Cougars during the Final Round of the NCAA Auburn Regional at Auburn University Club on Wednesday afternoon.
Starting his day off No. 10 on the 7,650-yard, par-72 course, the Guadalajara, Mexico native overcame two bogeys in a three-hole stretch early with the team's lone eagle of the tournament on the 560-yard, par-5 13th hole.
De La Fuente, the 2022-23 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year added a birdie on the par-5 16th hole and drained his final birdie of the postseason at No. 6 to tie for 37th at 224.
As a team, the Cougars recorded a team score of 299 on Wednesday and finished 11th overall with a three-day total of 900.
Playing in his last collegiate event, super senior Braxton Watkins joined De La Fuente in a tie for 36th at 224 to lead the Cougars. Sophomore Wolfgang Glawe and senior Austyn Reily tied for 47th at 228. Sophomore Jacob Borow finished 67th at 234.
Host and 13th-ranked Auburn captured the team championship with a score of 1-under 863 to finish one stroke ahead of #1 Vanderbilt. #48 Chattanooga (866), #25 Ohio State (872) and #24 Colorado State (874) finished among the Top-Five leaders and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
Ohio State's Maxwell Moldovan and Colorado State's Christoph Bleier tied for individual medalist honors with a score of 7-under 209. Indiana's Drew Salyers tied for fourth at 211 and advanced to the NCAA Championships as the highest individual player not on a qualifying team.
NCAA REGIONAL HISTORY
For the third straight season and the ninth time under Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will competed as a team in NCAA Regional play. This marked the 23rd NCAA Regional appearance in program history.
