Houston Faces League’s Leaders

HOUSTON – The University of Houston will make the return trip to face No. 24/21 South Florida on Sunday on ESPN2 in Tampa, Fla. at 1 p.m. CT. The Bulls currently lead the American Athletic Conference with the Cougars tied for second.

THE GAME

Houston is on national television for the second time in three games.
The Cougars are playing on Super Bowl Sunday for the first time since 2012, a loss at Tulsa, Feb. 5, 2012 67-53. The New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI (46).
Houston is looking to beat South Florida in Tampa for the first time since 2019.

LAST TIME OUT

Houston's won its third-straight conference game for the second time this season when it defeated Temple on Saturday 65-60.
Laila Blair scored a season-high 25 points with a season-high five three-pointers against Temple.
Tatyana Hill recorded her fifth double-double of the season and the ## of her career (10pts, 15reb).
Hill wrangled in 15 rebounds for the second time this season.
Houston won its first game of the year when trailing at halftime. Previously were 0-9 when trailing after 20 minutes.

Laila Blair was named conference Player of the Week.
The Cougars held back-to-back opponents under 40 points for the first time since 1980-81, holding Cincinnati (39) and Tulane (36) under 40 points.
Houston ranks second nationally in steals per game (13.9) and third in turnovers forced per game (24.95).
The Cougars rank 3rd nationally in three-point percentage defense (23.9%).
Houston and Lipscomb are the only two schools in the country to have played four overtime games this season.
Houston ranks 29th nationally in offensive rebounds per game (14.4).
Houston's turnover margin is 6th nationally (+7.59).
The Cougars' -5.46 scoring margin in its losses this season is the second lowest in the country. Houston has not lost more than one game by more than seven points and has five losses by one possession.
Blair was a unanimous Preseason All-Conference First Team selection by The American coaches.
The Cougars were picked to finish second in the league and received two first place votes in the Coaches Poll.
