Cougars meet Towson for first time at 5:30 p.m. (CST) Thursday inside TD Arena
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Winners of three straight games during the first eight days of its season, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program hits the road for the first time to compete in the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic later this week.
The sixth-ranked Cougars meet Towson in the First Round at 5:30 p.m. (CST) Thursday, inside TD Arena. The tournament continues Friday and wraps up Sunday.
Houston enters the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic following a 79-48 win over Stetson inside Fertitta Center on Monday night. Against the Hatters, senior guard LJ Cryer led all players with 21 points, thanks to three 3-pointers, while senior guard Damian Dunn totaled 15 points with three treys of his own.
With that win, senior forward J'Wan Roberts tied guard Marcus Sasser and forward Fabian White Jr. as the winningest student-athletes in Fertitta Center history with his 49th home victory.
With his performance Monday, Cryer moved into the team lead with 15.0 points per game. Dunn and sophomore guard Emanuel Sharp are tied for second with 12.7 points per game while Roberts and junior guard Ramon Walker Jr. are tied for the team lead with 5.7 rebounds per contest.
Senior point guard Jamal Shead tops the team with 6.7 assists per game.
