
Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Big 12 Match Play Tournament

Cougars drop 3-2-0 decision to No. 5 seed Oklahoma State on Wednesday morning
HOCKLEY, Texas – University of Houston senior Santiago De La Fuente and junior Wolfgang Glawe each posted wins, but it would not be quite enough as the Cougars fell, 3-2-0, to No. 5 seed Oklahoma State during the final day of the Big 12 Match Play Tournament at The Clubs at Houston Oaks on Wednesday morning.
Competing in their first Big 12 event, the Cougars – who were picked as the No. 10 seed in the Big 12 Coaches rankings – finished with a 2-2-1 record with wins over No. 2 seed Oklahoma and No. 7 seed BYU on the 7,007-yard, par-71 course.
Sophomore Hudson Weibel led the way with three wins in the three-day event while super senior Austyn Reily, senior All-American Santiago De La Fuente and junior Wolfgang Glawe finished with two wins apiece.

Starting off No. 3, De La Fuente built as much as a 3-hole lead before Oklahoma State's Johnnie Clark rallied to with the match with three holes to play.
Fortunately, the Guadalajara, Mexico, native took the lead for good at No. 18 to take a 2 up win.
Beginning off No. 5, Glawe jumped out a 2 up lead through his first five holes before Gaven Lane knotted the match at No. 15. The St. Leon-Rot, Germany, native won two of the next three holes to build a lead he would never relinquish and held off a late rally in a 2 up win.
Reily dropped a 2&1 decision to Preston Staut while Weibel fell 1 up to Jonas Baumgartner. Junior Jacob Borow lost a 5&3 match to John Wild.
UP NEXT
Following the Big 12 Match Play Tournament, the Cougars will take their holiday break.
From there, Houston returns to action to open its spring season at the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., on Jan. 29-31.
The Cougars then return to the Lone Star State to play host to the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas on Feb. 19-20.
