
Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Williams Cup

Junior Santiago De La Fuente finishes 13th, earns fourth straight Top-20 fall showing
WILMINGTON, N.C. – University of Houston junior Santiago De La Fuente posted an even-par 72 to lead the Cougars during the Final Round of the Williams Cup and finished 13th with a three-day score of 221 at Eagle Point Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.
A transfer from Arkansas Tech, drained four birdies on the 7,364-yard, par-72 course Sunday, including back-to-back efforts on Nos. 6-7 late on his first nine. It was his team-leading fourth Top-20 showing of the fall season.
As a team, the Cougars finished with a score of 301 Sunday and finished fourth with a 54-hole total of 897.
Sophomore Wolfgang Glawe tied for 14th with a score of 223 while seniors Austyn Reily and Marcus Wochner tied for 28th at 230. Playing as an individual, sophomore Jacob Borow tied for 45th at 237. Super senior Braxton Watkins was disqualified from Sunday's round after signing an incorrect scorecard and finished 60th with a two-day score of 150.
Host and eighth-ranked North Carolina captured the team championship with a score of 867. UNCW finished second at 879 with NC State coming in third at 895 and No. 37 Louisville in fifth at 901.
Indiana's Drew Salyers earned medalist honors with a score of 4-under 212. He finished three shots ahead of David Ford (North Carolina) and Brandon Einstein (NC State).

Following the Williams Cup, the Cougars take a break until they open their spring season at the Border Olympics on Feb. 13-14, 2023, at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.
From there, the Cougars will stay in town to compete at the Rice Intercollegiate at Westwood Golf Club in Houston on Feb. 20-21, 2023.
Houston continues its spring slate when it tees off at the Cabo Collegiate on the Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on March 20-21, 2023.
