Houston to Miss The American Championships

Positive COVID-19 tests and ensuing contact tracing force Cougars to sit out postseason event
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Golf program will not compete in the American Athletic Conference Championships due to positive COVID-19 cases and contact tracing within the Cougars' program, Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke announced Wednesday.
The Cougars, who stand at No. 54 in the latest Golfstat national rankings, will sit out the conference championship for the second straight season after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the entire postseason nationwide in 2020.
It will be the first time Houston has not competed in a held conference championships since playing as an Independent in 1972.
The three-day, 54-hole event begins Friday and runs through Sunday at Southern Hills Golf Club in Brooksville, Fla.

The Cougars must now wait to learn their NCAA postseason fate. The NCAA Selection Show will be shown on the Golf Channel on Wednesday, May 5, at a time to be announced.
81 teams and 45 student-athletes not on those teams will be selected to compete in the NCAA Regionals on May 17-19.
NCAA Regional play will be held at six courses across the country, including Championship Course – New Mexico (Albuquerque, N.M. / New Mexico); Golf Club of Tennessee (Nashville, Tenn. / Vanderbilt and Nashville Sports Council); Karsten Creek Golf Club (Stillwater, Okla. / Oklahoma State); Tumble Creek Golf Club (Cle Elum, Wash. / Washington); Sagamore Golf Club (Noblesville, Ind. / Ball State and Hamilton County Sports Authority); Golden Eagle Golf & Country Club (Tallahassee, Fla. / Florida State).
