Cougars welcome USF for afternoon match
HOUSTON – The Houston soccer team begins a stretch of three consecutive home matches as it welcomes No. 22 USF to town on Sunday for a Noon CT conference meeting.
The key American Athletic Conference meeting will be streamed live on UHCougars.com here while live stats can be found here.
Ranked No. 22 in the nation in the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll, USF is also considered No. 14 in the country by Top Drawer Soccer. The Bulls are unbeaten this season with a 5-0-1 record.
OFFENSIVE TRIO
While the squad has had a balanced offense all season, three upperclassmen have led the way: Jazmin Grant, Zionah Browne, and Mia Brascia. The trio are tied atop the team leaderboard with three goals and are also among the team's assist leaders.
Each of them has also added a game-winning goal to their resume this season.
Combined, the three of them have nine goals and seven assists while the rest of the team has eight scores and six helpers this season. The group of upperclassmen accounts for 17 of Houston's 36 shots on goal, or 47.2 percent.
HISPANIC HERITAGE DAY
Sunday's game will represent Hispanic Heritage Day as the Cougars celebrate the program's rich history of Hispanic student-athletes. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
Among the fun, the first 100 fans will be able to receive a "Los Cougars" shirt. At halftime, the Cougars will honor several current and former Hispanic student-athletes including stand-out alumnae Natalie Juncos and Julissa Depaoli.
SERIES HISTORY
While Houston defeated USF in the program's first meeting back in 2004, the Red and White have fallen to the Bulls seven consecutive times since then. The closest meeting in recent years came in 2018 as the Cougars fell 3-2 in Tampa.
UP NEXT
The American Athletic Conference slate continues over the next couple weeks with the Cougars welcoming Temple and SMU to town. The season will end against UCF on April 11 in Orlando.
