Bulls score three unanswered to overtake Cougars early lead
HOUSTON – Falling for the first time at home this season, the Houston soccer team dropped its Sunday match to No. 22 USF 3-1 at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
After scoring the first goal of the match, Houston (4-4-1, 1-4-0 AAC) allowed the Bulls (6-0-1, 5-0-0 AAC) to gain steam as they quickly answered with two first half goals before adding another later in the day.
Houston's goal came in the 5th minute off a corner kick as Jazmin Grant hammered home a ball assisted by Maddie Dichiara and Mia Brascia. The goal is Grant's team-leading fourth of the season as she continues to cement herself in Cougars history.
The Atascocita, Texas, native now ranks third in points and is tied for fourth in goals across program history. She has also scored in three of the team's last five games.
Brascia's assist is her third of the season and 14th of her career, putting her alone in second place on the all-time list. Dichiara's assist was her first of the season and first since transferring to Houston from Oklahoma.
After Grant's goal, USF scored in the 15th and 32nd minutes to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. The Bulls came out of the break and quickly added another goal in the 48th minute.
While USF was able to find the back of the net, goalkeeper Salma Ghazal made four saves on the afternoon to bring her season total up to 23.
Cassidy Formanek once again played all 90 minutes as she now leads the team with 700 minutes played. The team leader in minutes played the past two seasons, Formanek is once again on pace to achieve the same mark.
The Cougars earned more corner kicks than the Bulls, outnumbering them 4-1 in that category.
Before this result, the Cougars were 4-0-0 at home this season.
