Cougars to face San Francisco in Fort Worth
HOUSTON – The University of Houston women's basketball team will make its seventh appearance in the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) on March 19 with an opening round matchup against San Francisco.
The game is set for tip-off at 5 p.m. inside the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center. Fans are encouraged to watch the game via FloHoops.
THE 4-1-1
Three Cougars are averaging over 10 points per game as Miya Crump leads UH with 10.4 points per game, followed by Laila Blair with 10.1 points per game and Britney Onyeje with 10.0 points per game. Tatyana Hill leads UH on the glass, pulling down 6.1 rebounds per game. Dymond Gladney is the assists leader for the Cougars with 59 this season.
Houston is averaging 67.4 points per game on 38.8 percent shooting from the field and a 29.4 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 61.9 points on defense while letting opponents shoot 38.4 percent and 23.4 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.
Under Coach Hughey, Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country over the past two seasons. The Cougars enter the game with 244 steals this season and 97 blocks, forcing 20.90 turnovers per game.
WHERE THEY RANK
Houston is currently 59th in the NET rankings which is the third highest in The American. The Cougar received two votes in the Week 15 USA Today Coaches Poll and one in the Week 16 poll.
TALL ORDER COMPLETE
With its win against then-No. 13 USF the Cougars snapped a 29-game losing streak to ranked opponents. The Cougars defeated their first ranked opponent since 2010-11 and their first opponent ranked 13th or higher since 2003-04.
BALANCED ATTACK
Six Cougars are averaging 6.0 or more points per game this season. Four Cougars are among the top-30 scorers in The American this season.
SCOUTING THE DONS
San Francisco is in its 5th season under Head Coach Kim Molly Goodenbour. The Dons are 15-10 this season and 10-7 in the West Coast Conference. The Dons have won two of their last three games. Ioanna Krimili leads USF in points with 18.6 points per game. Lucija Kostic leads USF with 110 assists this season and 6.4 rebounds per games. The Dons average 71.6 points per game on 43.8 percent shooting from the field, including a 34.7 percent mark from the three-point line.

Friday's meeting is the 2nd meeting between the two teams. Houston trail in the series 0-1. Houston faced the Dons last year when the squad traveled to Canada, falling in an 80-57 decision.

Three times this season UH has forced 30 turnovers by an opponent, This season UH has earned 244 steals and is averaging 10.8 steals per game. Houston is 20th in the NCAA in steals per game and second in the league.
