Houston Comeback Falls Short Against San Francisco

Cougars sink 13 three’s matching second-most in program history
HOUSTON – The University of Houston women's basketball team saw its comeback effort fall short against San Francisco in the First Round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament. The Cougars fell to the Dons in a 71-63 decision.
Houston will return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. against the loser of California Baptist vs. New Mexico.
Laila Blair recorded her sixth consecutive double-digit scoring effort with a team-high 19 points. Miya Crump picked up the first double-double of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Houston could not be stopped from behind-the-arc as the team combined for a 13 three-pointers, matching the second-most in a single-game in program history.
After trailing early, the Cougars used staunch defense to erase a 10-point deficit. Trailing by as many as 10 points with just over four minutes remaining in the second quarter, UH rebounded with a 8-0 scoring run to tie the game at 39-all at the halftime break.
San Francisco continued to hit big shots down the stretch as Houston struggled on offense in the third and fourth quarters, outscoring UH 32- 24 down the stretch to seal its victory.
Crump paced the Cougar defense with her second game of the postseason with six steals. Both Crump and Dymond Gladney recorded five assists as Gladney returned to action for the first time since Feb. 27. Blair had a career-high four three-pointers and is closing is averaging 10.5 points per game, the ninth best scoring average by a freshman in program history.
