Team Effort Boosts Cougars to 80-48 win

Onyeje and Gladney score in double-digits, Hill grabs 8 rebounds
HOUSTON – In its regular-season opener, the Houston women's basketball team earned its first win of the season in an 80-48 win over Howard on Tuesday afternoon at the Fertitta Center.
Both Britney Onyeje and Dymond Gladney score in double-digits at 10 and 13 points, respectively. Taytana Hill grabbed eight rebounds while LailaBlar added four assists.
First Quarter
A highly contested first quarter started with back and forth points before the Cougars went on a 15-3 run with back-to-back treys from Blair followed immediately with a 3-pointer from Gladney. Howard closed out of the quarter with two free throws making the score 24-18.
Second Quarter
Houston's defense held the Bison to only six points in the second quarter, with all but one shot coming from the charity line. The Cougars scored eight unanswered points in the later moments of the quarter pushing Houston to a 42-24 score going into halftime.
Third Quarter
Another defensive quarter from the Cougars pushed their lead to 31 points in the third quarter including a 10-2 run to close the third quarter at 60-31.
Fourth Quarter
After only scoring 13 points in the latter two quarters, the Bison picked up their scoring. However, it was too late as the Cougars maintained their 30-point lead to the buzzer taking the win 80-48.
