Houston Set for Mid-Day Matinee Against Temple

Cougars look to extend two-game winning streak
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball Team returns to action on Wednesday with a mid-week matinee at the Fertitta Center against Temple.
Tip-off is set for Noon at the Fertitta Center. The game can also be viewed on ESPN+.
THE 4-1-1
Houston returns home after 2-0 week in American Athletic Conference play to face Temple. The Cougars are led in scoring by Britney Onyeje who averages 10.9 points per game. Bria Patterson leads UH on the glass, pulling down 5.7 rebounds per game. Julia Blackshell-Fair is the assists leader for the Cougars with 43 this season.
Houston is averaging 68.1 points per game on 39.6 percent shooting from the field and a 31.2 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 67.0 points on defense while letting opponents shoot 40.0 percent and 24.7 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.
Under Coach Hughey, Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country over the past two seasons. The Cougars enter the game with 110 steals this season and 47 blocks, forcing 19.80 turnovers per game.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
Temple is in its 13th season under Head Coach Tonya Cardoza. The Owls are 4-4 this season and 4-1 in conference play. Temple has won four of its last five games, most recently falling to Cincinnati in a 65-71 decision. Temple is led in scoring and rebounding by Mia Davis who averages 21.0 points per game and 9.4 rebounds per game. Asonah Alexander leads UH in assists with 52 this season. Temple averages 64.5 points per game on 39.3 percent shooting from the field, including a 23.9 percent mark from the three-point line.

Wednesday's meeting is the 13th meeting between the two teams. Houston trails the series 2-11, dropping the last three.
BOMBS AWAY
Houston has proven itself to be a threat from behind the three-point line, racking up at least six made three's in all but one game this season. Onyeje is second in The American in made three-pointers this season with 25. The Cougars are 61st nationally and second in The American in made three-point field goals. H-TOWN LOCKDOWN DEFENSE
The Cougars have shown that they are not afraid to shoot three-pointers and on the flipside they are one of the best at defending the three-point shot. UH ranks second in the league and 27th nationally in three-point FG defense, holding opponents to 24.7 percent from long-range.
SCOOP 'N SCORE
Houston forced 30 Memphis turnovers, its most since Feb. 18, 2020 when the team forced 23 against Cincinnati. This season UH has earned 110 steals and is averaging 10.2 steals per game. Houston is 40th in the NCAA in steals per game and second in the league. When it comes to forcing turnovers, Houston is one of the best, averaging 19.82 forced turnovers per game the Cougars are 49th in the NCAA and second in The American in the category.
DEEPER THAN EVER
With is largest roster in recent years, Houston has more than enough options off the bench. The Houston reserves have done their part, accounting for 254 points this season.
