Two Cougars conclude game in double-figures
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team was outlasted by the Temple Owls on Wednesday night at the Fertitta Center in a 61-58 decision.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cougars got out to a slow start, allowing Temple to take an early 8-2 lead. Julia Blackshell-Fair and Dymond Gladney got on the board early for Houston combining for all six of the Cougars first quarter points.
Stellar three-point shooting from UH closed the gap, as the Cougars went 5-of-8 from behind-the-arc, shooting 62.5 percent from long-range. Bria Patterson closed out the frame a perfect 2-of-2 from three-point range, Dorian Branch hit a pair of three-pointers and Gladney connected on a bucket from long range to give Houston the momentum to tie things up 29-29 at the half. Defensively, Houston forced seven Temple turnovers and scored seven points off of those turnovers.
Houston took advantage of cold shooting by the Owls in the third quarter and pounded the paint, outscoring Temple 12-4 down low. Tatyana Hill and Maya Jones took control of the Cougar offense, accounting for seven of Houston's 17 points in the frame. Blackshell-Fair made her presence known off the dribble with a pair of timely buckets that resulted in UH taking a 46-44 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Cougar offense struggled down the stretch, but timely buckets and defensive prowess kept things close. Rebounding plagued the Cougars as Temple scored eight second chance points. Houston put pressure on Temple, forcing three straight turnovers and getting within three-points with under a minute to play. As time winded down Dorian Branch would be called upon to take the last shot. An unlucky bounce resulted in Houston taking a 61-58 loss and falling to 1-1 in American Athletic Conference play.
