Dorian Branch leads Cougars with 13 points
HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team fell on Saturday afternoon to No. 1 UConn in a 91-51 decision at the XL Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Houston struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the opening minutes of play, falling behind early and trailing 11-0 at the first media timeout. The Cougars got on the board late in the frame when Dorian Branch found KeAjsa Peace on the block to snap UConn's 16-0 scoring run. Houston entered the break trailing UConn 25-2.
Dymond Gladney had the hot hand in the second quarter, hitting a three-pointer for the 13th straight game to get things going for the Cougars. Two buckets from Tatyana Hill and a driving lay-up from Julia Blackshell-Fair helped Houston get into double-figures before the halfway point of the second quarter. Houston would embark on a 6-0 run that helped swing the momentum of the game as Maya Jones, Blackshell-Fair and Hill each secured crucial points for the visiting team. Branch extended her streak of games with at least one made three-pointer to 17 when the senior knocked down a bucket from long-range to send Houston to the locker room trailing 44-21.
Branch continued to have the hit hand at the start of the third quarter, scoring five points before the midway point of the frame and sinking her second three-pointer of the day. UConn countered by hitting 9 of its final 11 shots to close out the quarter with a 72-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Houston took things to the paint in the fourth quarter, hitting 57 percent of its shots in the lane to UConn's 47 percent in the fourth quarter. Bria Patterson and Maya Jones crashed the boards for the Cougars in the final 10 minutes of action to put pressure on the Huskies. As time winded down Branch hit her third three-pointer of the day, for her third straight game with multiple made three-point baskets as Houston fell to UConn in a 91-51 decision.
